Welcome to Sydney, Australia’s largest city and capital of the state of New South Wales, situated on the east coast of Australia.
The Annual Course in International Law and Legal Information is the Association’s main meeting and educational event of the year, and the Australian law library community is proud to host this meeting of IALL in Sydney. This is only the third time Australia has hosted the IALL Course. The last time it was in Sydney was the 8th Course – way back in 1981.
The 38th Annual Course will take place from 27 to 30 October 2019 in spring time when Sydney streets are awash with the magnificent purple-blue blooms of jacaranda trees. You may expect temperatures in low to mid 20s centigrade or 70s fahrenheit.
The theme of the Course is Law Down Under – Australia’s Legal Landscape. Australia is a common law country, today blending indigenous culture, English heritage and the influences of a multi-cultural population.
The conference venue is at the University of New South Wales CBD campus, within close walking distance to Sydney Harbour and the Opera House. A range of hotels are within easy walking distance. We are planning a lively programme of comparative legal topics, discussing our common law heritage with a uniquely Australian flavour. Speakers will include judges, legal practitioners and legal academics. An optional post-conference session, including a trip to Sydney’s beautiful Taronga Zoo, is planned for Thursday 31st, with the opportunity to get close to Australian animals.
We look forward to welcoming you to Sydney in October 2019. Watch this website for further details, or contact the conference committee members with any questions.
