Applications for financial assistance to enable law librarians to attend IALL's 31st Annual Course - IALL 2012 - in Toronto, Canada from 30 September to 4 October 2012 are now being accepted.

Deadline

The application deadline is 1 June 2012.

Applications

To apply, please send the following documents via e-mail to Barbara Garavaglia, Chair of the IALL Scholarhsips Committee at bvaccaro@umich.edu:

  1. Full contact information, including an email address.
  2. A letter of application and personal statement addressing the Selection Guidelines for awarding the bursaries found in the IALL website at http://www.iall.org/scholarship.html
  3. A copy of your CV or resume.
  4. At least 2 letters of reference in support of your application; one of the references must be from your current employer.
  5. An itemized estimate of your expenses for attending the conference, including airfare, ground transportation, hotel and meals not supplied as part of the conference. (Conference registration includes some lunches and dinners as well as refreshments so you will not need to budget for many meals; see the conference programme for more information.)

Benefits

IALL offers three bursaries to attend its Conference comprising the following benefits:

  • The conference registration fee is waived
  • A grant of up to US$1,500 to assist with accommodation and travel costs
  • membership of IALL for one year (including journal) without charge
Selection Guidelines
  1. Applicants do not need to be members of the Association.
  2. Applicants should be in current employment in librarianship with significant legal context to their work. The bursaries and scholarships are not designed for students or those not currently in employment.
  3. Preference will be given to:
    1. applicants who demonstrate promise and are likely to make a significant contribution to the profession of law librarianship;
    2. applicants who cannot otherwise afford to attend;
    3. applicants who have not received an IALL bursary or scholarship before;
    4. applicants who have not attended a conference outside their own country / region or studied or worked outside their own country before.
  4. IALL bursaries are not open to officers or members of the Board of the Association.
Award

The President in consultation with the Board of Directors of the Association will decide on awards. The Association may make no awards, vary the amount of the awards or make additional awards within the above limit. The Association's decisions on the award of bursaries are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
