The 43rd Annual Course of the International Association of Law Libraries

Houston, Texas, USA, 19-23 October 2025

Welcome to IALL’s 43rd Annual Course

Presented by The Fred Parks Law Library,
South Texas College of Law Houston
October 19 – 23, 2025

Welcome to Houston, the 4th largest city in the United States, with resident balletopera, symphony and theatre companies.

Originally founded in 1837, Houston served as the temporary capital of the Republic of Texas. Today, Houston is the 3rd largest port in the U.S. It developed from a regional transportation and commercial hub, and was part of an independent nation until 1846.

In the 1850s, investment and development of railroads serving Houston increased the transportation options for freight and passengers while greatly increasing the number of jobs. The city expanded, and Houston became the economic center of Texas with oil companies establishing offices in Houston to administer oil fields in East Texas.  Your hotel was originally the building used by Humble Oil, better known today as Exxon or Esso.

This edition of the IALL annual course will explore Houston’s development from Frontier Town to a center for exploration in the final frontier!

The conference venue is in the heart of downtown at South Texas College of Law Houston. Restaurants, and theatre venues are within walking distance and the light rail connects you to the Art, Children’s, Holocaust and Natural Science Museums and the Houston Zoo.

South Texas College of Law Houston is a private, independent institution offering an ABA-accredited J.D. degree through both full-time and part-time schedules. Houston’s first law school — founded in 1923 — is located in the vibrant downtown of the nation’s fourth largest city, and it attracts diverse students from across the country.
