The Optional Day on Thursday October 12 will take us to Lausanne, Olympic capital and recently acknowledged as a must-see city in the 2023 edition of the famous New York Times “52 Places to go to in…” series. As we depart from Geneva’s Cornavin station, the 40 minutes train journey will take us through the countryside, with view of Lake Geneva and the vineyards of the Canton de Vaud.

International Court of Arbitration for Sport
Once in Lausanne, our day will start with a guided visit and presentation of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – sometimes referred to as the Supreme Court for sports – a unique institution responsible for resolving sport-related disputes between athletes, teams, and governing bodies from around the world. The visit will focus on the institution’s roles and resources, including a tour of their library and presentation of their databases and information management tools.
Olympic Museum and Olympic Studies Centre
Our day will continue with a lunch at TOM Cafe and a guided tour of the Olympic Museum. Dedicated to the history and culture of the Olympic Games, the Olympic Museum is a must-see in Lausanne, the world’s Olympic Capital. The Museum is home to a vast collection of artifacts and memorabilia, with collections retracing the history of the Games from ancient times to the modern era. We will conclude the day with a presentation of the Olympic Studies Centre’s activities and unique collections by its director Maria Bogner.
Wear comfortable shoes, as we’ll use public transportation through the day, with a bit of walking in between. If the weather allows, we’ll also take a lovely stroll through the Parc Olympique and on the Quais d’Ouchy before heading back to Geneva.
