Grant Information

The application period for financial assistance to enable law librarians to attend IALL’s 42nd Annual Course – IALL 2024 in Oslo, Norway from Sunday 16th June to Wednesday 20th June 2024 is now CLOSED.

IALL awards three distinct types of bursaries:

  1. Members Grants for current Individual members who have paid their dues for the current year and at least the two immediately preceding calendar years; three such bursaries of up to a maximum US$3,000 each will be awarded.
  2. Non- members Grants for librarians who are not current members of IALL; three such bursaries of up to a maximum of US$3,000 each will be awarded.
  3. Local Grants for librarians from Iceland, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden; four such bursaries for US$250.00 discount off the cost of the Course registration will be awarded.

IALL grants are not open to officers or members of the Board of Directors of the Association. See Selection Guidelines below for each grant category.

Deadline

The application deadline is 12 midnight GMT on Monday 4th March 2024 for Members, Non-members and Local Grants. ALL application materials and documentation must be submitted by 12 midnight GMT on Monday 4th March; incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications

To apply, please fill in and submit the appropriate online application form and upload all required documentation, preferably as one PDF file.

Please be sure to upload ALL required documentation with your online application. All documentation must be received by 12 midnight GMT on the Monday 4th March deadline; incomplete applications will not be considered. The application and all documentation must be in English.

  • Personal statement explaining why you wish to attend the conference
  • 2 letters of reference (1 must be from your current employer), and
  • A copy of your CV/resume.

Covered expenses: For applications in categories 1 and 2, please be sure to fill in the itemized estimates of covered expenses portion of the application form; covered expenses include air fare, train fare, ground transportation, hotel, visa or reciprocity fees. Expenses must be calculated in US dollars.

Note that Conference registration, which is gratis for grant winners in categories 1 and 2, includes several meals as well as refreshments; see the conference program for more information.

 Members Grant Eligibility and Selection Guidelines

  1. Applicants must have paid their dues as Individual members of IALL for the current year and at least the two immediately preceding calendar years.
  2. Applicants must be in current employment in librarianship with significant legal context to their work. The grants are not available to students or those not currently in employment.
  3. Preference will be given to:
    1. applicants with a demonstrated commitment to IALL and its mission;
    2. applicants who demonstrate promise and are likely to make significant contributions to the association and the profession of law librarianship;
    3. applicants who have not received a Members or Non-members (regular) IALL grant or in the past 5 years;
    4. applicants who cannot otherwise afford to attend.

Non-members Grant Eligibility and Selection Guidelines

  1. Applicants need not be members of the Association.
  2. Applicants must be in current employment in librarianship with significant legal context to their work. The grants are not available to students or those not currently in employment.
  3. Preference will be given to:
    1. applicants who demonstrate promise and are likely to make a significant contribution to the profession of law librarianship;
    2. applicants who cannot otherwise afford to attend;
    3. applicants who have not received a Members or Non-members (regular) IALL grant or scholarship in the past 5 years.
    4. applicants who have not attended a conference outside their own country / region or studied or worked outside their own country before.

Local Grant Eligibility and Selection Guidelines

  1. Applicants need not be members of the Association.
  2. Applicants must be in current employment in librarianship in Iceland, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden. The grants are not available to students or those not currently in employment.
  3. Preference will be given to:
    1. applicants who demonstrate promise and are likely to make a significant contribution to the profession of librarianship;
    2. applicants who cannot otherwise afford to attend;
    3. applicants who have not received a Members or Non-members (regular) IALL grant in the past 5 years.

Award

The Grant Committee in consultation with the IALL President will decide on awards. The Committee may make awards, vary the amount of the awards or make additional awards within the above limit. The Association’s decisions on the award of bursaries are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
