Having just returned from the 32. annual course in law and law librarianship in Barcelona I want to take this opportunity to thank those who attended and made it such a memorable and successful conference. We all owe our deepest thanks to the local organizing committee: Adelaida Ferrer, Dolors Gutiérrez, Elena Lauroba, Montse Morante and Mónica Navarro-Michel, for all their hard work. I would also like to show appreciation for our long time sponsors who are all long standing supporters of IALL, Wolters Kluwer, Hein and Brill without them and their continued generosity, IALL would have to charge much more for attendance of our annual courses.
Having had such a successful meeting in Barcelona, this also provides an opportunity to look forward to Buenos Aires next year. This is also a chance to reflect on the requirements for IALL conference sites and how future conference cities are chosen. IALL has a goal that the conference venues should alternate between continents, jurisdictions and legal cultures. The essential prerequisite for planning an IALL annual meeting is the availability of an experienced local organizing committee that is familiar with the association and are willing to donate their time to bring the meeting to their part of the world. In addition, the local organizing committee needs institutional support from major libraries or universities in their region. This support is essential for granting IALL access to infrastructure during the meeting and providing lecturers that can enlighten conference participants.
I hope to see you all in Buenos Aires next year!
